Hawk Tuah Girl Finally Breaks Silence on What Happened When a Cryptocurrency Scandal Wiped Out Her Savings
The 'Hawk Tuah' girl, Haliey Welch, has finally come forward to explain the events surrounding the controversial cryptocurrency scandal that left many people financially devastated.
Can you believe it? She's back! It feels surreal, right? It's been almost a year since the infamous 'Hawk Tuah' video went viral, where Haliey made her memorable comment, "spit on that thang," during a street interview.

That single clip catapulted her into the spotlight, leading to a whirlwind of publicity. She even launched her own merchandise line and quit her job to start a podcast titled Talk Tuah with Haliey Welch.
However, the fame also led her to venture into the world of cryptocurrency, where she became associated with a coin called the $HAWK token.
Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse. The initial hype surrounding the token quickly fizzled out, resulting in a staggering drop of over 90% in value. This left many investors facing significant losses, with reports indicating that millions were wiped out.
While Welch was the face of the $HAWK token, she was not named as a defendant in the lawsuits filed against the creators of the coin, who faced accusations of unlawfully promoting and selling cryptocurrency.
The backlash was intense, with one user expressing their frustration online: "I am a huge fan of Hawk Tuah, but you took my life savings."
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Welch opened up about the fallout from the scandal, stating that she "hates" that it has become a reality. "Half of those people that done it were, like, my fans," she explained, reflecting on the trust her followers placed in her. "They trusted me, like, guiding them to it. And I don’t know... it really hurt my feelings when it turned out the way it did. I wish it hadn’t have happened."

In March, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission concluded its investigation into Welch, finding "no evidence" against her. During the height of the controversy, she largely withdrew from the public eye, spending time as a "24/7 dog mom" and taking a much-needed "mental health break" at her home in Tennessee.
Welch made her return to social media just before the investigation wrapped up, admitting that it has been "a little bit of a struggle" to step back into the limelight. "But I feel like rebuilding is what I needed to do," she said.
At just 22 years old, Welch confessed that she doesn't "really understand" cryptocurrency and described the situation as "one of those things that just happened." She emphasized the importance of being cautious about what one associates their name with, stating, "You got to be really careful what you tie your name to, and you definitely need to know what you’re getting yourself into when you agree to do it. That’s something I definitely should have done beforehand."
While her mental health "didn’t get as bad" following the scandal as it did when the original Hawk Tuah interview went viral, she expressed deep remorse for those who lost money. "I feel really bad and really sorry for those who lost money in the scandal," she said.
During her time away from the public eye, Welch kept things simple. "I would see my friends. I would go out and eat. That’s really about it. I don’t ever get out and do much when I’m home. I like being by myself," she shared.
