Hernandez Powers Marlins to Victory Over Brewers

Jul 27 2025

Heriberto Hernandez launched a pivotal three-run home run, propelling the Miami Marlins to a 7-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday night.

In addition to Hernandez's heroics, Agustín Ramírez and Dane Myers also contributed with home runs, marking the Marlins' fourth consecutive win.

Janson Junk (5-2) took the mound, surrendering three runs and eight hits over five innings. Tyler Phillips closed out the game, earning his first career save after pitching four innings and allowing three hits, including a solo home run from Andrew Vaughn in the ninth.

Vaughn initiated the scoring in the second inning with a double against Junk, advancing to third on Isaac Collins' single. Despite Brice Turang striking out and Collins being caught stealing, Caleb Durbin's two-out single put the Brewers ahead 1-0. Durbin was subsequently thrown out attempting to steal, ending the inning.

Myers opened the third inning with a single off Jose Quintana (7-4) and promptly stole his 15th base. Javier Sanoja's RBI double tied the game at 1-1, but he was caught trying to stretch it into a triple by center fielder Jackson Chourio.

Ramírez then put the Marlins ahead in the fourth with his 15th home run, making it 2-1.

Chourio responded for the Brewers in the fourth, leading off with a double that extended his hitting streak to 19 games. Collins and Turang followed with back-to-back two-out doubles, giving Milwaukee a 3-2 lead.

In the fifth, Sanoja reached base due to an error by Turang and advanced on Xavier Edwards' single. After two outs, Hernandez stepped up and hit his fourth homer, reclaiming a 5-3 lead for Miami. Quintana finished with five runs allowed—two earned—and seven hits over five innings.

Kyle Stowers greeted Grant Anderson with a double to start the sixth, followed by Myers hitting his fifth homer, extending the Marlins' lead to 7-3.

Hernandez's timely blast shifted momentum back to Miami after the Brewers had briefly taken control.

Chourio's hitting streak is now the longest for a Brewers player aged 22 or younger, surpassing notable names like Gary Sheffield, Robin Yount, and Paul Molitor, who all had streaks of 16 games.

The Marlins will send right-hander Eury Pérez (3-3, 3.23 ERA) to the mound on Sunday against Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (2-0, 1.65).
