Children’s Book Author Jennifer Wolfthal and Husband Discovered Living Double Life in a House of Horrors

Jan 18 2025

A beloved children's book author from Florida, Jennifer Wolfthal, recognized for her heartwarming tales of friendship, and her husband, Joseph Wolfthal, an engineer at Lockheed Martin, have been charged with a heinous crime. The couple faced accusations of abusing and neglecting their adopted children, sending shockwaves through their community.

Jennifer Wolfthal, the creative mind behind "A Real Friend," and her husband, Joseph, recently pleaded guilty to aggravated child abuse and neglect of a child with great bodily harm. According to the plea agreements obtained by Fox News Digital, Jennifer is set to serve 12 years in prison, while Joseph will face a 10-year sentence.

A spokesperson from the State Attorney’s Office in Florida’s 18th judicial circuit expressed, "This plea and sentencing agreement ensures that the Wolfthals will spend significant time in prison while it protects the already-traumatized victims from the stress of having to testify." The State Attorney’s office ensured that law enforcement and the children's new guardian supported this sentence before agreeing to it.

The distressing saga began to unfold in 2021 when the couple's 8-year-old adopted daughter was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, suffering from organ failure, unconsciousness, and a multitude of injuries. This alarming incident triggered an investigation that revealed a dark reality within the Wolfthal household.

Aside from the 8-year-old, the Wolfthals had two other adopted children, aged 9 and 11. The police report shed light on the severity of the abuse, stating, "Due to the height and weight of [the girl], it is not likely the swollen bruise on the back of her head and the laceration on her lip and broken tooth were caused by off balance falls."

Upon visiting the family home, investigators were confronted with a scene of horror. Two of the children exhibited signs of malnourishment, bruises, and overall neglect. Shockingly, the children's bedrooms had doorknobs installed backward, with locks on the outside, painting a grim picture of captivity.

Further searches of the residence unearthed over 1,100 chilling written paragraphs, detailing the children's harrowing experiences. One excerpt read, "My body stays flat on the bed at all times. I was never given permission to move or say anything. Now I get to write about this along with everything else. I am a fool."

Despite the disturbing revelations, Jennifer Wolfthal's book remains available for purchase on Amazon. However, the book's reviews section has been inundated with links to news articles exposing the allegations against the author, tarnishing her once-pristine reputation.

Authorities disclosed that all three of the Wolfthals' adopted children were subjected to various forms of abuse. Following the investigation, the children were swiftly relocated to a new, caring family environment, away from the horrors they endured.
