Concordia St. Paul Basketball Star's Journey to Success
ST. PAUL, Minn. — Meet Antwan Kimmons, a 6-foot super senior point guard who is lighting up the court this season, propelling the Golden Bears to newfound success.
"He's a game-changer," praised Golden Bears head coach Matt Fletcher. "His style of play is unmatched. He's incredibly physical, especially for a guard. He thrives on contact, turning it into points effortlessly."
Despite his size, Kimmons dominates the game, averaging an impressive mid-20 points per game for the high-scoring Golden Bears.
"I'm confident driving to the basket, no matter the angle," Kimmons shared. "Left hand, right hand, hooks — I make it happen."
Kimmons' journey began in St. Paul, just a stone's throw away. Raised in St. Paul, he attended Tartan High School before playing three seasons at Division I Northern Iowa. However, life took a turn.
"Becoming a father made me reevaluate everything. I wanted to be present for my daughter," Kimmons explained. "Returning home was about family, not basketball. Basketball took a back seat."
For the 2022-23 season, Kimmons transferred to Concordia St. Paul. After a setback with a back injury last season, he made a remarkable comeback. The team, after enduring nine consecutive losing seasons, is now on an upward trajectory.
"By focusing on the fundamentals, we can extend this season as far as we desire," Kimmons expressed optimistically. "We have the potential to compete for another two to three months."
As Kimmons nears the end of his collegiate career, the Bears are now strong contenders in the conference.
"It's surreal to be part of this transformation, to rewrite the narrative of Concordia St. Paul basketball," Kimmons shared emotionally. "Every day brings me closer to the end of this chapter. As a senior, I'm giving my all to leave a lasting impact."
