Timberwolves Squeak Past Heat in Thrilling 106-104 Showdown
In a nail-biting finish, the Minnesota Timberwolves edged out the Miami Heat 106-104 on Friday night, marking their fourth consecutive victory. Key players Mike Conley, Naz Reid, and Donte DiVincenzo each contributed 15 points, showcasing a balanced offensive effort.
Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, and Julius Randle each added 13 points to the scoreboard. Notably, Edwards, who typically averages 27.5 points per game, had a quieter night, attempting just 10 shots and making four. Nickeil Alexander-Walker also made his mark, scoring 12 points to round out Minnesota's seven double-figure scorers.
With just eight seconds left on the clock, Edwards split two free throws, pushing Minnesota ahead 106-101. Miami's Duncan Robinson quickly responded with a 3-pointer, narrowing the gap to two points with only three seconds remaining.
However, a miscalculated inbounds pass from Conley gave the Heat a chance to tie or take the lead. Unfortunately for Miami, Bam Adebayo's 3-pointer hit the rim, sealing the Timberwolves' victory.
Adebayo was a standout for the Heat, scoring 29 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, while Tyler Herro added 22 points and Robinson finished with 15.
This win was significant for Minnesota, as it prevented them from being swept by Miami for the first time since the 2016-17 season. Over the years, Minnesota has managed to sweep four series and split three in their annual two-game matchups with the Heat.
On the other hand, Miami is kicking off a five-game homestand in March, with a schedule heavily favoring their home games at Kaseya Center. They have 12 home games lined up, including another five-game stretch later this month, alongside five road games.
Reid's pivotal 3-pointer with 4:42 left in the fourth quarter put Minnesota ahead for good at 98-95, followed by a hook shot that extended their lead. McDaniels continued his impressive form, hitting 6 of 12 shots, marking five consecutive games of shooting 50% or better.
Looking ahead, the Timberwolves are set to host the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday, while the Heat will face off against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday.
