Nijisanji VTuber's Shocking Merchandise Earnings Revealed
Former Nijisanji VTuber, Kunai Nakasato, recently unveiled the surprisingly low income she generated from merchandise sales during her short tenure at the talent agency before departing.
Kunai Nakasato entered the Nijisanji EN scene in October 2023, only to bid farewell a mere eleven months later in September 2024. Her swift exit marked one of the briefest stays among VTubers at the agency, and the newly revealed details about her earnings shed light on the possible reasons behind her early departure.
Now known as SunnySplosion in the streaming world, the independent VTuber shared during a live stream, "By the way, guys, I did some math here. If I manage to sell around 12 bundles, I would have earned the same amount from merchandise as I did throughout my entire heist," with 'heist' alluding to her time at Nijisanji.
The specific bundle Sunny mentions is part of her birthday merchandise collection, priced at $77.77 USD. Selling a mere 12 of these bundles would accumulate to $933.24, indicating that she garnered less than $1,000 USD from merchandise sales during her nine-month stint as a Nijisanji EN Liver.
It's important to note that this figure does not encompass earnings from SuperChats, sponsorships, ad revenue, or Memberships, implying that her overall income from various sources would be significantly higher. Nonetheless, her revelations hint at the relatively modest earnings VTubers receive from merchandise sales alone.
Prior to Kunai Nakasato's disclosure, former Nijisanji member Mysta Rias mentioned that he was earning a mere "like 1%" from merchandise sales. Additionally, a "very trusted source" shared with YouTuber FalseEyeD that the percentage cut VTubers receive ranges from 1-3%. These figures have not been officially confirmed or refuted by Nijisanji, as the agency has never publicly disclosed any official numbers.
Debuting as Kunai Nakasato, SunnySplosion was part of TTT, a fan-given name for a generation that Nijisanji did not officially name. Interestingly, the ninth generation wave did not have its own debut song, with fellow talents Maria Marionette and Enna Alouette covering their theme song instead.
Regrettably, TTT's time as a complete wave was short-lived, as Kunai decided to graduate within a year of her debut. Recently, it was confirmed that Victoria Brightshield will also be departing, with her graduation scheduled for November 9, 2024, leaving Claude Clawmark as the sole remaining member of the wave.
