Man Arrested for Calling 911 17 Times to Get a Ride to Wawa

Dec 28 2024

Imagine really wanting a snack from your favorite convenience store, but instead of ordering an Uber, you decide to dial 911 for a police escort. Well, that's exactly what 24-year-old Adam Vaughn did in East Windsor, N.J., on December 23.

East Windsor police had to intervene when Vaughn allegedly made a series of 17 calls to 911, not for emergencies, but to request a ride to the nearest Wawa store in Hightstown. It seems Vaughn was adamant about getting his hands on some Wawa goodies.

However, the police were not about to turn into a taxi service for Vaughn's snack runs. Instead of fulfilling his unusual requests, they paid him a visit at the Windsor Hotel, where he was staying, to advise him to cease misusing the emergency hotline.

Despite being warned after his initial calls that 911 is strictly for emergencies, Vaughn persisted in his attempts to secure a police escort to Wawa. His repeated misuse of the system led to his eventual arrest.

After his 17th call, Vaughn found himself in handcuffs, facing not only the consequences of misusing 911 but also receiving a criminal summons for obstruction. It seems his craving for Wawa landed him in hot water with the law.
