Influencer Mom Arrested for Faking Kidnapping to Gain Followers
A Brazilian influencer is in custody following allegations that she fabricated her own kidnapping to enhance her social media following. Monniky Fraga, 27, reportedly deceived not only her audience of 48,000 but also her husband, Lucas, who was unaware of the elaborate scheme, according to law enforcement officials.

Fraga's arrest on Tuesday comes nearly a year after she claimed that she and her husband were ambushed by three armed assailants outside their home. In a dramatic narrative shared with her followers, she described being taken into the woods, held hostage, and coerced into paying a ransom.
However, investigators have since uncovered evidence suggesting that the entire incident was a staged event designed to attract media attention. Detective Cley Anderson stated, “As the investigation progressed, it found indications that the alleged kidnap-for-ransom was in fact nothing more than a plot between the supposed victim and one of the perpetrators.”

Anderson emphasized that Lucas remained oblivious to the ruse throughout the ordeal. “At all times, he has maintained that he genuinely believed it was a real kidnapping,” he noted.
Authorities have identified three men allegedly involved in the conspiracy alongside Fraga. One suspect is currently incarcerated for unrelated offenses, while another was killed before law enforcement could apprehend him. The third individual, believed to have received the ransom payment, had his residence in Várzea Paulista searched by police.

Fraga now faces multiple charges, including blackmail, perverting the course of justice, and wasting police resources. Her legal team has requested that she be placed under house arrest due to her responsibilities as a mother of young children.
