Josh Allen's Sideline Frustration Highlights Bills' Struggles Against Texans
During a tense moment in the fourth quarter of a 23-19 defeat against the Houston Texans, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was visibly frustrated. Cameras captured him slamming his helmet and exclaiming, “What are we doing?” at Houston’s NRG Stadium on November 20.
Post-game, Allen reflected on his outburst, attributing it to frustration over the team’s execution. “In a situation like that we probably should have just banged a timeout. We got the play in late. Didn’t give ourselves a chance there,” he explained to reporters.
The incident quickly gained traction on social media, with fans interpreting Allen’s reaction as a sign of deeper issues within the organization. One user remarked, “Josh Allen slams his helmet and says ‘what are we doing’ after running the ball four times in a row. Tells you all you need to know about the current state of the Bills offense.”
Former NHL player Carlo Colaiacovo weighed in, stating, “Just a reminder to Bills Fans, the management stood pat at the deadline and did nothing to help Josh Allen or improve their defense because they believed in this current group as Super Bowl contenders.”
“The Bills need a hard reset. Josh Allen deserves that,” added NFL Network analyst Adam Rank.

Allen faced significant pressure throughout the game, enduring a career-high eight sacks, which contributed to the Bills’ record dropping to 7-4, placing them two games behind the New England Patriots in the AFC East.
He acknowledged the Texans’ defensive prowess, noting, “It’s a good unit. Statistically, I think they’re the tops in basically everything that you can be the tops in. They showed that tonight. That’s a really good football team.”
Despite the loss, Allen remained optimistic about their chances, stating, “They wanted it today. We had a chance to win there at the end. Gotta find a way.”
Head coach Sean McDermott emphasized the need for improved protection for Allen, highlighting the 12 hits and eight sacks he endured. “That’s not a healthy formula right there. It’s not a healthy way to play or a healthy way to keep our quarterback healthy through the remainder of the season,” McDermott said.
He further elaborated on the need to avoid obvious passing situations that lead to increased pressure on Allen. “That’s where the hits come; second down and long turns into third down and long, and that’s the unhealthy formula I’m talking about, and Josh takes too many hits,” he noted.
While McDermott refrained from placing blame on any specific individuals, he expressed confidence in his offensive staff: “I believe in our offensive staff.”
The Bills are set to face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, November 30, as they look to bounce back from this disappointing loss.
