Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has emerged as a formidable presence in the NFL, captivating fans with his on-field performance and off-field endeavors.
At just 27 years old, Herbert was selected sixth overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, quickly establishing himself as a key player for the Chargers. His contributions have been instrumental in leading the team to playoff appearances in both 2022 and 2024.
Born in Eugene, Oregon, Herbert showcased his athletic versatility as a three-sport athlete at Sheldon High School, excelling in basketball and baseball alongside football.
His collegiate journey took him to the University of Oregon, where he played from 2016 to 2019. During his senior year, he led the Ducks to a Rose Bowl victory, earning the title of Offensive MVP.

However, Herbert's path was not without challenges. A broken leg during his junior year raised doubts among major college programs. Despite this setback, he rebounded to earn first-team All-State honors in his senior year, but only received two scholarship offers from NCAA Division 1 schools: Nevada and Oregon.
Chris Petersen, former head coach at the University of Washington, described Herbert as a “very tricky” recruit due to his injury history. Ultimately, he committed to Oregon in October 2015. Reflecting on his recovery, Herbert stated, “It was really tough going through that, but I didn’t really spend much time thinking about it. I focused on getting back. Fortunately, I came back stronger.” His lifelong support for the Ducks made his commitment even more meaningful.
Beyond football, Herbert demonstrated leadership and community spirit during high school by founding the Irish Fishing Club, which quickly grew to 80 members. The club continues to thrive today, promoting outdoor exploration and camaraderie among students.
Scott Wright, the club's advisor, emphasized its mission: “It’s about getting together, having fun exploring together... We ask as a club to represent the club well, do the right thing all the time, respect all people.”

Herbert's academic achievements are equally impressive. He received the William V. Campbell Trophy during his senior season at Oregon, an accolade often referred to as the “Academic Heisman,” awarded to the college football player who exemplifies excellence in academics, leadership, and athletic performance.
Graduating with a degree in Science and a remarkable 4.01 GPA, he has been recognized as one of “the best student-athletes in the history of college football” by the National Football Foundation.
Herbert comes from a family with a rich football legacy; his maternal grandfather, Rich Schwab, played wide receiver at Oregon in the 1960s. His father, Mark Herbert, also played football at the University of Montana while competing in track.
Football talent runs deep in the family. Justin's brothers have also made their mark: Mitch played wide receiver at Montana State University before earning a medical degree from Columbia University in 2024. Patrick played tight end at Oregon from 2022 to 2024 and briefly signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent before being waived.

Recently, Justin sparked romance rumors with singer Madison Beer after visiting her music video set in August. The two were spotted engaging in conversation before leaving together in his car.
As Herbert continues to shine on the field and navigate his personal life under public scrutiny, fans eagerly anticipate what lies ahead for this talented quarterback.
