Kid Cudi Reflects on Testifying in Diddy’s Trial: “Hated Every Minute”

“I hated every minute,” Kid Cudi expressed candidly about his time on the witness stand during Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sex trafficking trial. The rapper, known as Scott Mescudi, felt compelled to testify, driven by a sense of loyalty to his friend, Cassie Ventura, the key witness in the case.

On the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Cudi recounted his experience in Manhattan federal court, revealing that he was initially hesitant to participate. “I was just there because I had to be,” he stated, explaining how he was subpoenaed after declining to testify voluntarily.

“At first they asked, and I said no. They asked again, I said no. Then I got subpoenaed, and I was like, ‘F–k! S–t! No!’” Cudi recalled, reflecting on his reluctance. Yet, as he took the stand, thoughts of supporting Cassie shifted his perspective. “I’m here to support Cassie,” he reminded himself.

In May, Cudi alleged that Diddy had broken into his home in Hollywood Hills out of jealousy upon learning about his relationship with Ventura, who had a tumultuous on-and-off romance with the music mogul. This incident reportedly occurred in December 2011.

During his testimony, Cudi shared details of a brief romance with Ventura while she was separated from Diddy, who faced serious allegations of coercing former partners into degrading sexual acts. He also accused Diddy of firebombing his Porsche convertible with a Molotov cocktail in January 2012, shortly after their relationship ended.

“In the moment, it was just crazy,” Cudi reflected on that chaotic period. “I had a hard time understanding if it was reality. I was like, ‘Am I in a movie? What the f–k is going on?’”

Despite his initial reluctance to testify, Cudi found motivation in the “nightmare” that Ventura endured throughout her decade-long relationship with Diddy. “Cassie is my friend and I love her and I want to see her do well,” he stated, expressing joy over her marriage to personal trainer Alex Fine and her journey into motherhood.

“I’ve always just wanted to see her thrive and do well and be happy because I know she was living a nightmare. I was there to support her. That’s what kind of gave me peace with it when I sat down in that chair,” he added.

Diddy, now 55, was found guilty last month on two counts related to transportation for prostitution but acquitted of two sex trafficking charges and one racketeering charge. He faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced in October.
