Lindsey Vonn Navigates Wardrobe Mishap at 2025 ESPY Awards
Lindsey Vonn turned heads at the 2025 ESPY Awards, held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on July 16, showcasing a stunning strapless gown by Elisabetta Franchi. The dress featured a daring thigh-high slit, revealing a glimpse of her thong, complemented by black platform heels and a chic clutch.
As she posed for photographers, a sudden gust of wind disrupted her moment, causing her gown to billow unexpectedly. Images captured the alpine ski champion in a lighthearted recovery, as a friend rushed to assist her. Vonn laughed off the incident before making her way into the venue.
Nominated for Best Comeback Athlete, Vonn shared the spotlight with notable contenders including soccer player Mallory Swanson, gymnast Suni Lee, and ice hockey captain Gabriel Landeskog. Ultimately, Suni Lee took home the award.

Inside the theater, Vonn made a quick change into a dazzling silver beaded dress featuring a sheer skirt and fringe details. She was later seen mingling with Olympic star Simone Biles, who looked radiant in blue.
This wardrobe mishap wasn’t Vonn’s first encounter with fashion faux pas. In 2016, she experienced a similar incident at the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation Blue Diamond Gala while wearing a blue Michelle Mason gown. A breeze lifted her skirt, but she maintained her composure and smiled through it.
Two years later, she humorously expressed her hopes of avoiding wardrobe issues at the 90th Academy Awards. “I’m out of my comfort zone. Definitely here, I just — it’s a lot,” she remarked during the event. “The Oscars is such a big deal; I’m just trying to soak it all in and not mess it all up.”

Prior to the ESPY Awards, stylist Jeff Kim made last-minute adjustments to Vonn’s custom Christian Siriano gown. “I made it down the red carpet so far without tripping and my outfit’s in one place so I’m happy,” she quipped, showcasing her trademark humor.
Despite leaving the 2025 ESPY Awards without an accolade this time, Vonn has previously won four trophies from the event. Leading up to the ceremony, she expressed her excitement about her nomination on Instagram, reflecting on her journey. “Can’t believe I’m nominated for another ESPY award… wow! Means a lot to me and it’s very humbling,” she wrote alongside nostalgic photos from past events. “I voted for @sunisalee as her comeback in Paris was beyond impressive!”
