Marlins Extend Winning Streak with 2-0 Victory Over Twins

Jul 01 2025

Kyle Stowers launched a home run, propelling the Miami Marlins to a 2-0 victory against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night, marking their eighth consecutive winβ€”just one shy of the franchise record set in 2008.

Edward Cabrera (3-2) delivered a stellar performance, striking out six batters while allowing only two hits and one walk over seven innings. This outing marked the longest start of the season for a Marlins pitcher. Notably, Cabrera struck out Byron Buxton to conclude the third inning, achieving his 400th career strikeout and becoming the third-fastest player in franchise history to reach this milestone.

Stowers put Miami on the scoreboard in the second inning with his 14th home run of the season. Initially, he was awarded first base after what appeared to be a hit-by-pitch, but Minnesota challenged the call, leading to its overturn.

In the eighth inning, Miami added an insurance run. Jesús Sánchez hit a deep shot to center field, where Buxton made a valiant leap at the wall to keep the ball in play. Sánchez sprinted to third base, and after a review confirmed it was not a home run, Otto Lopez was intentionally walked to load the bases. Nick Fortes then delivered a single down the left-field line, extending Miami's lead.

Anthony Bender pitched a flawless eighth inning, while Ronny Henriquez struck out two consecutive batters in the ninth to secure his fourth save of the season.

On the other side, Minnesota's starter Joe Ryan (8-4) also pitched seven innings, yielding just one earned run on five hits. The Twins faced their seventh shutout of the season, having been blanked by the Tigers just days earlier.

Looking ahead, RHP Janson Junk (2-0, 3.73 ERA) is scheduled to face the Twins for the first time in his career on Wednesday night, going up against RHP Simeon Woods Richardson (3-4, 4.63).
