Miami Dolphins OL Bayron Matos Hospitalized After Training Camp Injury

Jul 24 2025

Bayron Matos, an offensive lineman for the Miami Dolphins, is currently hospitalized following an injury sustained during the first day of training camp on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital after a collision with a teammate concluded practice. His agent, Perlesta Hollingworth, described the incident as resulting in an "above the shoulder type injury," though specifics regarding the neck or spine remain unclear.

As of Thursday morning, the Dolphins confirmed that Matos had spent the night in the hospital for further testing and evaluation. Encouragingly, he has movement in all extremities and is reported to be stable.

The team indicated that Matos will continue to receive medical care for ongoing observation, which is essential for establishing a long-term diagnosis.

Originally from Los Mina, Santo Domingo, Matos relocated to the United States at 17 years old, initially pursuing basketball and cultural acclimatization. His journey into football began just three years ago when he walked onto the University of South Florida football team without prior experience.

Despite being undrafted in 2024, Matos signed with the Dolphins as a free agent through the NFL's International Player Pathway Program, which aims to provide opportunities for international athletes in the league.

Sixteen months ago, the Dolphins secured Matos with a guaranteed contract worth $247,500. He spent last season on Miami's practice squad and signed a reserve/future contract in January. To date, he has not yet participated in an NFL game.

The Dolphins organization continues to monitor Matos's condition closely as they await further updates on his recovery.
