Michigan QB Bryce Underwood Responds to Coach Moore's Arrest
Michigan's starting quarterback, Bryce Underwood, took to social media on December 16, marking his first public statement since the arrest of head coach Sherrone Moore. The 18-year-old athlete reacted to backup quarterback Jaydn Davis's decision to enter the transfer portal, a move that follows the turmoil surrounding Moore's recent firing.
“Be the best you!” Underwood posted on his Instagram Story, expressing gratitude with, “Thank you for everything my brother!” This message comes as Davis, a four-star recruit from the class of 2024, prepares to leave the Wolverines after limited playing time—just four games over two seasons.
Davis now faces a choice: he can wait until the national transfer portal opens in early January or opt to enter five days after Michigan appoints a new head coach, which is anticipated by the end of December according to reports.

Meanwhile, interim head coach Biff Poggi is focused on preparing the team for the upcoming Cheez-It Citrus Bowl against the University of Texas on New Year’s Eve. Davis is notably the first player to announce his intention to transfer following the shocking events surrounding Moore’s termination and arrest on December 10.
The university dismissed Moore after an investigation revealed an “inappropriate relationship” with a staff member. Shortly thereafter, he was arrested for allegedly breaking into her apartment and making threats against both her and himself. Moore faces serious charges, including third-degree felony home invasion and misdemeanor stalking.
Released on a $25,000 bond, he is scheduled to appear in court on January 22. In light of these events, Poggi addressed the media, acknowledging the emotional turmoil within the team. “It has been a tumultuous time,” he stated, reflecting on the players' feelings of betrayal and anger.
Poggi has made efforts to connect with players individually and has engaged in discussions with their parents via Zoom. “I want to listen to them,” he emphasized, recognizing the wide range of emotions present among the team. “We’re trying to work through that,” he added, indicating that this process is ongoing.
As uncertainty looms over the roster, Poggi reassured players that their participation in the bowl game is a personal decision. “This is a personal decision for you all, based on a very unique situation,” he said, underscoring the importance of sensitivity during this challenging time.
