Sherrone Moore Dismissed Amid Multiple Investigations

Dec 12 2025

Head football coach Sherrone Moore was dismissed by the University of Michigan on December 10, following multiple investigations into his conduct with women. The university's athletic director, Warde Manuel, confirmed the termination, citing credible evidence of an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.

Moore, 39, faced scrutiny earlier this year, with two investigations preceding the final decision to fire him. While it remains unclear if these earlier inquiries were connected to the staff member involved in the recent allegations, the university had conducted a thorough investigation over the summer regarding their relationship.

Initially, both Moore and the staff member denied any personal relationship. However, reports indicate that the staff member altered her account just hours before Moore's termination. This shift in narrative raised further questions about the nature of their interactions.

As the Michigan football team gears up for the Citrus Bowl against the University of Texas on New Year’s Eve, interim head coach Biff Poggi will take over coaching duties. The abrupt firing of Moore has left many in the university community reeling.

“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” Manuel stated. “Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”

Shortly before Manuel's announcement, police took Moore into custody after he allegedly threatened both the staff member and himself. Reports suggest he was in possession of a knife at the time of his arrest.

Audio from a 911 call obtained by media outlets revealed that the caller accused Moore of stalking her for several months. As of December 12, he remained in custody awaiting arraignment, although no formal charges had been filed against him.

The Pittsfield Township Police Department issued a statement regarding the ongoing investigation, emphasizing the need to maintain its integrity and promising to release further details as they become available.

University president Domenico Grasso reiterated the institution's commitment to a zero-tolerance policy regarding such conduct. “There is absolutely no tolerance for this conduct at the University of Michigan,” he stated. “This breach of trust by Coach Moore is painful for many in our community.”

Grasso emphasized that swift action reflects the university's dedication to fostering a culture of respect and accountability. He urged community members to report any violations of university policies through the compliance hotline.

Moore has been married to his wife Kelli since 2015, and they have three daughters together.
