NFL Players Face Fines Following Spitting Incident
NFL players Dak Prescott and Jalen Carter are poised to face hefty fines stemming from a spitting incident that has captured widespread attention. Former NFL player Isaac Rochell weighed in on the matter during a TikTok video posted on September 5.
“Two NFL players spit on each other during a football game,” Rochell remarked, suggesting that the financial repercussions could reach into the thousands. The incident occurred during the opening game of the 2025-2026 NFL season, where Prescott, 32, was seen spitting towards Carter, 24, who responded in kind. Prescott later clarified that he did not intentionally spit on Carter.
Rochell raised questions about the implications of this incident for Carter’s future with the Philadelphia Eagles. “How does the team view it, and how does this affect Jalen Carter and his future?” he pondered. “Is this going to affect his contract next year? Absolutely.” He emphasized that such behavior could tarnish Carter's reputation, potentially impacting his earnings.

Further elaborating, Rochell speculated that if Carter were to miss even one game as a consequence of the incident, it would result in a financial loss. “Even if he has the best year possible, he’s still technically played one less game that he was healthy,” he explained. “Is he going to have to pay a fine for this? The answer is yes.” He suggested that the Eagles might not be inclined to pay Carter the $60,000 owed for that game.
Rochell indicated that Carter’s base salary per game could align closely with the anticipated fine. “The Eagles organization is probably not going to play him for spitting on somebody and sitting in the locker room,” he stated. “He can get fined the max fine for conduct detrimental, which is the game check.” Following the incident, Carter was ejected from the game.
Referee Shawn Smith confirmed the ejection, stating, “One of the officials observed [Jalen] spitting on an opponent. It’s a disqualifiable foul in the game. It’s a non-football act.” The Eagles managed to secure a 24-20 victory despite the controversy.

In a postgame press conference, Prescott defended himself, asserting that he did not aim to spit on Carter. “I was just looking at [Jalen] and I was right here in between two linemen,” he recounted. “I guess I needed to spit, and I wasn’t going to spit on my linemen, so I just spit ahead. At that point, I felt like he was insulting me. I wouldn’t spit on somebody and I’m damn sure not trying to spit on you; we’re trying to play a game.”
As of now, Carter has not publicly commented on the incident or his subsequent ejection from the game.
