OnlyFans Creator Sophie Rain Critiques Florida Republican's Proposal for 50% 'Sin Tax' on OnlyFans Earnings: 'God Knows What I'm Doing'

Jan 13 2026

Florida gubernatorial candidate James Fishback has stirred controversy with his proposal for a 50% "sin tax" on OnlyFans income, aiming to fund public education improvements. This plan has drawn sharp criticism from OnlyFans creator Sophie Rain, who argues that the initiative is fundamentally flawed.

Fishback, an underdog in the 2026 GOP primary, described OnlyFans as an "online degeneracy platform" and stated that the tax is intended to deter behaviors he deems inappropriate. "It is called a 'sin tax' because it is a sin, number one," he explained in an interview, emphasizing his desire to protect young women and men from what he perceives as moral decay.

In response, Rain labeled Fishback's proposal as "the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard of." She questioned the logic behind taxing individuals for their choices, stating, “How do you charge a sin tax to a Christian who hasn’t sinned?” Her assertion highlights the personal agency she feels in her decision to join OnlyFans.

Rain, who is 21 years old, expressed frustration over Fishback's focus on her specifically. “He is focusing on me because he needs the attention he can get at this point,” she remarked, suggesting that his criticisms are more about self-promotion than genuine concern. She dismissed the notion that he could successfully challenge her or others in her position.

Moreover, Rain raised questions about the fairness of targeting creators rather than subscribers. “Why are you taxing the creator, why not the subscriber? By that logic, this makes no sense,” she argued. She pointed out that Florida is a hub for OnlyFans creators and warned that such a tax could drive them out of the state.

Fishback claims that his proposed tax could generate $200 million to enhance teacher salaries and improve school lunches. However, critics like Rain argue that the logistics of implementing such a tax on independent contractors would be complex and potentially unconstitutional.

As of now, Fishback has not provided a draft of the legislation or details on enforcement mechanisms. The debate continues as both sides prepare for the upcoming election cycle.
