Russell Brand Calls Courtroom Sketch an 'Injustice' Following His Appearance on Rape and Sexual Assault Charges

Jan 22 2026

Russell Brand has publicly criticized a courtroom sketch of himself from his recent court appearance concerning serious allegations of rape and sexual assault.

On January 20, the actor and comedian participated in a hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London via video link from the United States, where he was granted bail.

During the brief six-minute session, Brand confirmed only his name and date of birth, as reported by various sources.

Following the hearing, Brand took to social media to express his thoughts on the courtroom sketch created by an artist. “Never mind anything else,” he wrote on X. “This court sketch is an injustice.”

The 50-year-old comedian faces new charges related to incidents involving two women, as announced by the Metropolitan Police last month. These charges are in addition to earlier allegations filed in April 2025, which involve four women; Brand has pleaded not guilty to those initial charges.

According to court documents, the latest allegations pertain to incidents that allegedly occurred in London in 2009.

A plea hearing for these new charges is set for February 17, as reported by various outlets.

Metropolitan Police Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy stated, “The Met's investigation remains open and detectives ask anyone who has been affected by this case, or anyone who has any information, to come forward and speak with police.”

The allegations against Brand first emerged in September 2023 when five women, including a minor, shared their experiences in a joint investigation by multiple media outlets.

In response to these allegations, Brand denied the claims through social media. “I’ve received two extremely disturbing letters, or a letter and an email, one from a mainstream media TV company, one from a newspaper, listing a litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks,” he stated in a video. “But amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks, are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute.”
