Sydney Sweeney Compared to Melania, Fox Viewers Caution That 'It's Not a Compliment'

Feb 01 2026

Sydney Sweeney found herself at the center of a controversial comparison during a recent Fox News segment. Republican strategist Caroline Sunshine drew parallels between the Hollywood actress and former First Lady Melania Trump while speaking with anchor Jesse Watters.

Sunshine stated, "She reminds me so much of Melania Trump, who is just one of the most unbothered first ladies I’ve ever met." This remark, however, did not sit well with many viewers, who took to social media to express their discontent. One user bluntly remarked, "That’s not a compliment," while another quipped, "That comparison lives entirely in her head."

The criticism continued to flow as one commenter exclaimed, "JESUS CHRIST…. The maga cult is using Sweeney like a condom." Another added, "True. Both of their recent films have sucked." A third user chimed in with a jab about box office performance, stating, "Well after this weekend, they’ll both know what it’s like to have flopped badly at the box office."

Further fueling the fire, a user dismissed Sunshine's comparison by saying, "Sorry, but Sydney Sweeney's fat husband will never cheat on her with a dirty porn star. Stop pretending." Another user sarcastically noted Sunshine's remarks about Sweeney and Melania, saying, "Sydney reminds her of Jeffrey Epstein's hand-me-down bride, Melania? How complimentary of her. These people are mentally challenged."

In addition to the Sweeney-Trump comparison, Sunshine sparked outrage by suggesting that successful individuals of color cannot experience racism. She criticized former First Lady Michelle Obama for discussing her experiences with racism on a podcast. "I love seeing our first lady," Sunshine said, "rather than, I saw a clip the other day of Michelle Obama, on a podcast, complaining about how hard it is to be a black woman and I thought, wasn’t Michelle Obama First Lady like a decade ago?"

Sunshine continued her critique by questioning why Obama would still address such issues when her husband had been elected president twice. "And also, her husband was elected twice to be president of this country and he’s a black man. So I’m sorry, why are we talking about this?" she asked.

Sunshine expressed pride in Sweeney for standing firm against criticism regarding an American Eagle advertisement that some deemed racist. She recounted an encounter between Sweeney and a GQ reporter who attempted to corner the actress into an apology. "Sydney just goes, 'No, I’m good, yeah I’m ok, I don’t have anything to apologize for.' That’s exactly how you handle these people, Jesse," Sunshine concluded.

As the segment aired, viewers remained vocal about their opinions on social media platforms, highlighting the ongoing discourse surrounding celebrity comparisons and discussions of race in America.
