Taylor Swift Officially Joins Chiefs Kingdom Following Engagement to Travis Kelce
The Kansas City Chiefs have welcomed Taylor Swift into their fold following her engagement to star tight end Travis Kelce. The announcement came via the team's official Instagram account on August 26, where they expressed their excitement: “Today is a fairytale ❤️💖. Congrats to Travis and Taylor — we’re excited to have you as a permanent member of the Chiefs Kingdom family!”
Accompanying the post were heartfelt images, including one of Kelce, 35, embracing Swift, also 35, after the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory in 2024. Another image featured a screenshot of the couple's joint Instagram post announcing their engagement, where they humorously noted, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 😁,” alongside a series of proposal photos.
Gracie Hunt, daughter of Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt, shared her joy with People, stating, “I can’t stop smiling.” She described the engagement as a “modern fairytale unfolding in real life,” highlighting how their love story has resonated with many and is now entering a new, enchanting chapter.
This engagement news follows Swift's recent appearance on the “New Heights” podcast hosted by Travis and his brother Jason Kelce. During the episode, she recounted a memorable moment from 2023 when Travis attempted to give her his number at an Eras Tour stop but missed the opportunity. “It was such a wild romantic gesture to just be like, ‘I want to date you!’” Swift reflected. “At first when I looked at it, I was like, ‘This dude didn’t get a meet-and-greet and he’s making it everyone’s problem.’”
Swift humorously recalled how Travis thought he could bypass the usual protocols to meet her, saying, “He came with Patrick Mahomes and thought that because he knows the elevator lady that he could just talk to her about getting [backstage]. That’s how it works in 1973.”

She continued with a vivid analogy: “This was more like I was in an ’80s John Hughes movie and he was just standing outside of my window with a boombox just being like, ‘I want to date you! Do you want to date me!?’ So I was like, ‘If this guy isn’t crazy, which is a big if, this is sort of what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager.’”
After their romance became public, Kelce shared his perspective on how they connected. “There were definitely people she knew that knew who I was, in her corner [who said]: ‘Yo! Did you know he was coming?’ I had somebody playing Cupid,” he told WSJ. Magazine in November 2023. “She told me exactly what was going on and how I got lucky enough to get her to reach out.”
