Taylor Swift Regains Control of First Six Albums, Hints at "Reputation" Vault Tracks
Taylor Swift confirmed on Friday that she has successfully repurchased the masters of her first six studio albums, which were initially sold to Scooter Braun in 2019 and subsequently acquired by Shamrock Capital.
In a heartfelt letter posted on her website, Swift expressed her overwhelming joy: "I've been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out that this is really happening. I really get to say these words: All of the music I've ever made… now belongs… to me."
Following the controversial sale of her masters, Swift embarked on a mission to rerecord her albums, ensuring ownership of the new versions. To date, she has released four: "Fearless (Taylor's Version)" and "Red (Taylor's Version)" in 2021, along with "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" and "1989 (Taylor's Version)" in 2023.
Fans have eagerly anticipated the rerecording of "Reputation," which debuted in 2017. However, Swift revealed in her letter that she has yet to complete even a quarter of the album's rerecording.
"The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it," she noted. "To be perfectly honest, it's the one album in those first 6 that I thought couldn't be improved upon by redoing it."
Despite this, she hinted at the possibility of releasing unreleased vault tracks—songs written during that era but omitted from the original tracklist. Each of her rerecorded albums has featured tracks "From the Vault."
"There will be a time (if you're into the idea) for the unreleased Vault tracks from that album to hatch," she mentioned, sparking excitement among her fanbase.
In a recent interview with Time magazine, Swift teased that the "Reputation" vault tracks are "fire," further fueling speculation about their potential release.
Additionally, she announced that she has completed the rerecording of her self-titled debut album, originally released in 2006, expressing satisfaction with its new sound.
"Those 2 albums can still have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right, if that would be something you guys would be excited about," she concluded, leaving fans eager for what’s next.
