Trinity Rodman Supports Ben Shelton After US Open Withdrawal
Ben Shelton, a rising star in tennis, faced a setback at the US Open, but he has the steadfast support of his girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, an Olympic soccer player.
“NYC was a movie, as always. Just a bad ending… I’ll be back,” Shelton, 22, shared on Instagram on August 30, reflecting on his recent withdrawal due to a shoulder injury.
Rodman, 23, made the trip to New York City to cheer on Shelton during the tournament. Following his announcement, she took to her Instagram Stories to express her admiration: “You are strength and dedication. I love you, and you’ll be back stronger.”

Earlier in the week, during a press conference on August 28, Shelton was caught off guard when Rodman posed a pointed question about his performance. “How did it feel not being able to serve faster than 135 today?” she asked, referencing his second-round match against Pablo Carreno Busta.
With a playful reaction, Shelton covered his face and quipped about Rodman’s unexpected role as a questioner. “I just know you like to serve big, and it wasn’t breaking 140 today,” she added, teasing him further.
In response to her inquiry, Shelton explained that the chilly conditions affected his serve speed. “Yeah, it was cold outside. I think that was the main reason. I was focused on hidden spots, and I didn’t hit those spots. Maybe I should serve bigger. It’s something I’ll definitely work on next time,” he noted.

The couple confirmed their relationship in March, with Shelton commenting on the public's reaction: “I was sure some people would talk about it, but I didn’t think it would be a ‘break the Internet’ type of thing.” He acknowledged that sharing their relationship on social media felt natural given their connection.
“For the past six months, whenever I would get seen with somebody, people would think we were dating. It’s like, ‘No, we’re just friends,’” he explained. “It’s either gonna be I post about my girlfriend or they post about assuming who my girlfriend is.”
Despite their busy schedules, Shelton emphasized the importance of making time for each other. “You gotta make sacrifices sometimes,” he stated. “It’s just the life that we live. The lives that we live right now and for the foreseeable future. I think that you have to have two selfless people in a situation like this, and I think we have that.”
