Iga Swiatek Shares Joy Over Taylor Swift's Engagement Following US Open Win
Moments after securing her first-round victory at the US Open, Iga Swiatek couldn't contain her enthusiasm for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's engagement. “I’m so happy for her! Oh, my God! She deserves the best,” the 24-year-old tennis star exclaimed to ESPN's Chris McKendry on August 26. “I literally saw the post two minutes after I went off the court. I was still on adrenaline. I couldn’t believe it.”
Earlier that day, Swift and Kelce, both 35, took to social media to announce their engagement after two years of dating. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the Grammy-winning artist shared on Instagram, accompanied by photos from the proposal.
Swiatek humorously noted the impeccable timing of the announcement during a separate press conference. “She posted when I finished,” she remarked with a laugh. “Maybe that’s not a coincidence. I don’t know… I’m just happy for her because she deserves the best.”

When asked if she would feel nervous knowing Swift might watch her play in future matches, Swiatek nodded affirmatively. “Oh yeah, I have to avoid just looking at the screen to not see who’s actually there,” she admitted. “But she sang the National Anthem at the US Open when she was a teenager. It would be great if she could come and watch some tennis.”
In September 2024, both Swift and Kelce made headlines when they were spotted enjoying an afternoon date during the US Open Tennis Championships. Earlier in the year, the “Shake It Off” singer had sent Swiatek a handwritten note while on her Eras world tour.
“I’m dead,” Swiatek shared on X at that time. “Yes, I cried many times during the show. Yes, it was incredible. You are amazing @taylorswift13.”

As Swiatek joins fellow fans in celebrating Swift’s latest milestone, she is also eagerly anticipating the singer’s upcoming studio album titled The Life of a Showgirl. “I’m just super happy,” she told the Tennis Channel on August 13 when asked about the project. “There’s a lot to think about and be excited about… Swifties have a lot of theories so I don’t know what to listen to and what not but I’m super excited. I hope it’s going to be a good one.”
On the August 13 episode of Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast, Swift confirmed that her 12th studio album will be released on October 3. According to her new fiancé, the album is packed with “bangers.”
