Wings Secure Victory Over Liberty with Strong Performances from Ogunbowale and Bueckers
Arike Ogunbowale and Paige Bueckers each netted 20 points, propelling the Dallas Wings to a 92-82 victory against the New York Liberty on Monday night. Despite a challenging fourth quarter where the Wings managed only one field goal, they held on for the win.
After three quarters, Dallas appeared in control with an 85-62 lead. However, the final period saw a dramatic shift as New York surged back, outscoring Dallas 20-3 in the first 8.5 minutes. A pivotal 3-pointer from Aziaha James narrowed the gap to 88-82.
With just over a minute left, Bueckers, cheered on by former UConn teammate Azzi Fudd sporting an "I Heart PB" shirt, broke the scoring drought for Dallas by sinking two free throws. Following a missed jumper from Jonquel Jones, DiJonai Carrington sealed the game with two more free throws, extending the lead to 92-82.
The Wings started strong, leading 31-19 after the first quarter and further extending their advantage to 63-36 at halftime. Ogunbowale made history by becoming the first player in WNBA history to achieve at least 15 points and 10 assists in a single half.
For New York (17-8), Jonquel Jones contributed 18 points while Sabrina Ionescu added 17. The Liberty faced this defeat without star player Breanna Stewart, who was sidelined due to a right leg injury, marking their second consecutive loss.
Luisa Geiselsoder also made a notable contribution for Dallas (8-19) with 14 points. Looking ahead, New York will visit Minnesota on Wednesday for a clash between conference leaders, while Dallas prepares to host Atlanta on the same day.
