Yankees Secure Ryan McMahon from Rockies in Trade

Jul 25 2025

The New York Yankees have finalized a trade to bring third baseman Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies, according to a source familiar with the transaction. The deal, which involves sending prospects to Colorado, is contingent upon successful physical examinations.

As the Rockies sit at the bottom of the standings, McMahon joins a Yankees squad actively pursuing a playoff berth. The 30-year-old infielder, known for his defensive prowess, has recorded a batting average of .217 this season, along with 16 home runs and 35 RBIs.

Financially, McMahon is under contract for approximately $36.2 million, part of a six-year, $70 million deal that extends through 2027. This acquisition comes as New York seeks to stabilize their third base position following the recent shift of All-Star Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to second base, a move that followed DJ LeMahieu's release.

In recent games, Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas have filled in at third base, but the Yankees are looking for a more permanent solution. McMahon, drafted in the second round of the 2013 MLB Draft out of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, has a career batting average of .240 and has hit 140 home runs over nearly a decade in the league.

His postseason experience includes four games played during the 2018 playoffs. For the remainder of this season, McMahon is set to earn $4,193,548 from his $12 million salary, with $16 million due in each of the following two years.
