2025 National Muslim Basketball Tournament Set to Begin in Schaumburg

Aug 07 2025

The National Muslim Basketball Tournament kicks off Thursday at the Schaumburg Park District Sport Center, drawing over 600 athletes for four days of intense competition.

Haroon Saadeh from One Athletics, the event's organizer, noted the expansion from three to four days was necessary to accommodate a growing number of teams. "Last year we had 60 teams as well, typically we have 30 to 40, and the interest has grown," he explained. The introduction of youth basketball league divisions has significantly contributed to this increase in participation.

This year's tournament features eight divisions, catering to various age groups: under 11, 13, 15, and 17, alongside a men's elite division, two girls' divisions (13 and 17), and a veterans division for players aged 35 and older.

In a philanthropic effort, Saadeh revealed that proceeds from the tournament will support Gaza relief efforts. "The reason why we're doing this this year, and the last couple years, is raising funds for what's happening over there," he stated. All funds raised through team registrations will be donated to the Human Development Fund, the tournament's main sponsor.

As the tournament approaches, registration has officially closed. The excitement builds as teams prepare for the competition, with the Final Four in the Elite Division set to earn invitations to the championship round.

With a focus on community and competition, this event promises to be a significant gathering for athletes and supporters alike.
