Ace Bailey: A Rising Star for the Sixers in the 2025 NBA Draft

Jun 23 2025

The Philadelphia 76ers are eyeing the No. 3 overall pick in the upcoming 2025 NBA draft, a pivotal moment following a disappointing season. This selection could very well come from just down the New Jersey Turnpike.

Rutgers University boasts two of the most promising prospects in this draft class. Freshman guard Dylan Harper is projected to be selected second overall, while freshman wing Ace Bailey is expected to be available for the Sixers at the third spot.

"This kid is off the charts," said Steve Pikiell, head coach of Rutgers men's basketball, referring to Bailey. "Athletically, he can get anywhere on the court and rise up to take a shot. He’s a shot maker with deep 3-point range, but he also excels in mid-range and makes tough shots look effortless."

Pikiell envisions Bailey as a versatile player capable of defending multiple positions, highlighting his defensive prowess and adaptability to team needs. "His role on my team was primarily to score, especially when we lost Dylan Harper for a month. I needed him to step up," Pikiell explained. "I see him eventually bringing the ball up the court. He has that potential to be like Kawhi Leonard, playing various positions."

Off the court, Bailey's impact resonates within the community. "He's a community guy," Pikiell noted. "He attended soccer games, lacrosse matches, and football events. Even though his time here was brief, he made a significant impression."

Rumors suggest that the Sixers might pursue a trade to secure the No. 2 pick for Harper, who is the son of five-time NBA champion Ron Harper. Standing at 6 feet 6 inches with a wingspan of 6 feet 10 inches, Dylan Harper is adept at playing both on and off the ball.

"He has incredible DNA," Pikiell remarked about Harper. "He’s a multi-position player and one of the best finishers at the rim. Being left-handed, he’s equally proficient with his right hand and can do a bit of everything."

Despite his players lacking tournament experience, Pikiell confidently stated that teams will regret overlooking them in the draft.
