Aces Dominate Valkyries with 101-77 Victory
Jewell Loyd showcased her shooting prowess, tying a franchise record with seven 3-pointers and finishing with a season-high 27 points as the Las Vegas Aces defeated the Golden State Valkyries 101-77 on Sunday.
Just over a day after suffering a staggering 53-point loss to Minnesota, the Aces channeled their frustration into a commanding performance against the Valkyries, who had previously enjoyed a three-game road winning streak.
By halftime, Las Vegas had established a commanding 50-25 lead, with their bench contributing 25 points compared to just two from Golden State's reserves. The Aces' shooting was on point, culminating in 18 successful 3-pointers, equaling the franchise record.
Jackie Young added 20 points to the Aces' tally, while A'ja Wilson recorded a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Chelsea Gray also made her mark with 11 points.
On the other side, Ilana Rupert led the Valkyries with 17 points and eight rebounds. Carla Leite and Laeticia Amihere each chipped in with 14 points, while Kaila Charles contributed 13.
The Aces started strong, leading 27-14 after the first quarter, hitting 9 of their 16 attempts from the field.
In a tense moment just before halftime, Janelle Salaun of Golden State received a Flagrant 2 foul for an aggressive play against Loyd, resulting in her ejection. Loyd capitalized on the free throws awarded and Kirstan Bell capped off the half with a buzzer-beater, extending the lead to 25 points.
