Pittsburgh is gearing up for another major production as filming for an untitled Apple TV+ thriller begins this summer.
Featuring Liev Schreiber, known for his role in "Ray Donovan," alongside Zazie Beetz from "Deadpool 2" and Stephen Graham of "Adolescence," the series is based on Lars Kepler's acclaimed "Killer Instinct" novels.
The narrative follows Jonah Lynn, portrayed by Schreiber, an ex-soldier who transitions into a homicide detective. Seeking solace from the chaotic streets of Philadelphia, he relocates to a small town in Western Pennsylvania. However, tranquility is shattered when a cunning serial killer, Jurek Walter (played by Graham), threatens his new life and family, compelling Jonah to fight for their safety, as detailed in a news release from Apple TV+.
To support the production, the Pennsylvania Film Office has allocated $32.4 million in film production tax credits. The Shapiro administration anticipates that this project will generate over 3,500 jobs and inject approximately $108 million into the state's economy.
Highlighting the success of the Pennsylvania Film Production Tax Credit program, the Shapiro administration noted that it has attracted more than 100 film projects, resulting in $967 million in direct spending and creating jobs for around 9,000 individuals.
This program offers a 25% tax credit to productions that allocate at least 60% of their total budget within Pennsylvania.
The Apple TV+ series joins a growing list of productions in western Pennsylvania. Currently, "How to Rob a Bank," an Amazon MGM Studios film, is seeking paid extras in the area. Additionally, a biopic about Hershey is filming across various locations, transforming sites like Bedford Square on the South Side into scenes reminiscent of the 1800s.
Moreover, the Paramount+ series "Mayor of Kingstown," featuring Jeremy Renner, has filmed multiple seasons throughout Pittsburgh and its surroundings.
