Jun 12 2025

As the countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup begins, Arlington is ramping up its preparations. With only a year remaining, the city is poised to welcome millions of fans to North Texas.

AT&T Stadium will host nine matches, the highest number of any venue across North America. This significant event is expected to draw an unprecedented influx of visitors, transforming Arlington into a bustling hub of activity.

"People often compare this to hosting nine Super Bowls," remarked Matt Wilson, executive director of the Arlington Sports Commission. "In reality, it’s even more than that." The scale of the event is set to elevate Arlington's profile on the world stage.

With a history of successfully hosting major sporting events, Arlington is leveraging its extensive experience to ensure a seamless experience for attendees. "We’ll apply all the lessons learned over the past two decades to guarantee an exceptional experience for everyone," Wilson added.

The city anticipates thousands will gather in its entertainment district, regardless of ticket status. City officials are confident in their infrastructure's ability to accommodate large crowds, citing the successful management of events like the Texas Rangers' World Series parade in 2023.

"Our primary goal is to create a safe and enjoyable environment," Wilson emphasized, noting that preparations are already in full swing to prioritize safety and enjoyment.

The economic impact of the World Cup is projected to be substantial, with estimates suggesting a $2 billion boost for the North Texas region and a significant uptick in tourism throughout Texas.

"Visitors will come for the matches but will also have opportunities to explore local communities and experience everything Texas has to offer," stated Erika Boyd, president and CEO of the Texas Travel Alliance. This influx is expected to benefit local businesses significantly.

Hotels, restaurants, and various businesses are gearing up for the anticipated wave of international guests. "The experiences we provide for visitors will have a lasting economic impact on Texas and help alleviate household taxes for residents," Boyd noted.

As Arlington prepares for its moment in the global spotlight, local leaders are eager to showcase the region's charm and hospitality. The hope is that this event will not only impress visitors but also create a lasting legacy for years to come.
