Athletics Set to Break Ground on Las Vegas Stadium

Jun 23 2025

The Oakland Athletics are poised to take a significant step in their relocation journey as they prepare for a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday.

This event marks the official start of construction for their new stadium, located on the site of the former Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas.

Since departing from the Oakland Coliseum, the narrative surrounding the A's has been rife with uncertainty and speculation, but now a new chapter is set to unfold.

The planned stadium will accommodate 33,000 fans, a substantial increase from the 14,000-seat capacity of their current temporary venue at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento.

While the A's will continue to play in Sacramento for the remainder of this season and two additional seasons, there remains a possibility for a fourth season based on the progress of construction in Nevada.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled to commence at 8 a.m. on Monday, marking a pivotal moment for the franchise and its future in Las Vegas.

Molly Riehl, a Sacramento native, expresses her excitement about sharing stories from her hometown. She previously worked at KPTV in Portland, Oregon, where she hosted and reported for the lifestyle and entertainment segment, MORE Good Day Oregon.
