Charlie Woods Claims First AJGA Title at TaylorMade Invitational

May 29 2025

Charlie Woods, at just 16, has made headlines by winning the TaylorMade Invitational, marking his inaugural title with the American Junior Golf Association. This victory, achieved on May 28, showcases his potential as he navigates the early stages of his golfing career.

Competing against 71 other golfers, Charlie surged ahead with an impressive eight birdies in his final round, demonstrating skill and determination. Notably, Cameron Kuchar, son of professional golfer Matt Kuchar, finished tied for 10th place in the same tournament.

Held in Bowling Green, Florida, this event was only Charlie's fifth appearance in an AJGA tournament, where he had previously struggled to break into the top 25. His recent performance signals a promising trajectory in his golfing journey.

Born in 2009 to Tiger Woods and ex-wife Elin Nordegren, Charlie is not only the son of a golfing icon but also carries the weight of high expectations. Tiger has emphasized the importance of individuality to his son, encouraging him to forge his own path in the sport.

“I just always remind him, ‘Just be you,’” Tiger stated in a December 2024 interview with CNN. “Charlie is Charlie. Yes, he’s my son, he’s gonna have that last name as part of the sport, but I just want him to just be himself.”

In the same month, Tiger noted Charlie's physical growth and development, mentioning he has grown “3.5 to 4 inches in height” and has become “stronger, faster, heavier” over the past year. Their relationship is characterized by a competitive spirit balanced with mutual support.

“Having Charlie out here is very special,” Tiger remarked during a press conference. “To have the father-son relationship that we have and extend it into this part of both of our lives is incredible.”

Despite the unconventional dynamic of a teenage son advising a legendary father, Tiger trusts Charlie’s insights on his game. “I trust him with my swing and my game,” he explained. “He’s seen me hit more golf balls than anyone else in the world.”

This unique partnership on and off the course highlights their bond as they navigate their respective golfing journeys together. As Charlie continues to develop his skills, the golfing world watches closely, eager to see how he carves out his own legacy.
