Collin Morikawa Challenges Reporter Over Caddie Story
“I don’t,” Collin Morikawa replied sharply when asked about his caddie for the upcoming Rocket Mortgage Classic. The 28-year-old golfer faced off with a reporter from Golfweek, Adam Schupak, during a media session on June 25, just days before the tournament in Detroit, Michigan.
The tension escalated when Morikawa expressed frustration over Schupak’s article, which he felt misrepresented his situation. “I read your article that you wrote. Look, I’m not here to tell people how to do their jobs, but I don’t get why you would make me sound bad,” he stated, referring to a quote that suggested he was preoccupied with pro-am partners.
Earlier that day, Schupak had reported Morikawa’s intention to address the caddie situation after his round. “I’m with my pro-am partners now,” Morikawa clarified, emphasizing the importance of the event and its participants.
In response to Morikawa’s concerns, Schupak attempted to clarify his intentions, saying he was “actually giving you credit that you were playing, you were focused on your pro-am partners.” However, Morikawa remained unconvinced, asserting that the article’s tone did not reflect his perspective.
“OK, we can all read it very differently,” he countered. “That’s not how I read it. But I’m just telling you, I think there’s a perspective where people can read it like that.” The golfer reiterated his commitment to his pro-am partners while addressing the media.

Morikawa’s relationship with the media has been strained recently. In March, he remarked, “I don’t owe anyone anything,” after skipping a media session following a disappointing performance at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. “No offense to you guys, but for me in the moment of that time, I didn’t want to be around anyone,” he explained.
This week, Morikawa announced that KK Limbhasut, a former college teammate at the University of California, Berkeley, would be caddying for him at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. This change follows his recent split from caddy Joe Greiner and the earlier departure of longtime caddy J.J. Jakovac in April.
