Jun 04 2025

On Tuesday night, the Dallas Wings faced off against the Seattle Storm at Climate Pledge Arena, ultimately succumbing to an 83-77 defeat in their first Commissioner Cup game of the season.

Leading the charge for the Wings was DiJonai Carrington, who notched a season-high 22 points along with eight rebounds. Myisha Hines-Allen also made her mark, achieving her first double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Dallas entered halftime with a solid lead of 38-30, bolstered by a wide-open three-pointer from rookie Luisa Geiselsoder just before the buzzer sounded.

However, the Storm rallied in the second half, driven by Gabby Williams' 18 points. Nneka Ogwumike and Erica Wheeler ignited their offense, contributing significantly to Seattle's comeback.

A pivotal moment came when Seattle launched an 18-4 run while Dallas struggled offensively, going over five minutes without a field goal and missing eight consecutive shots.

Despite the loss, Dallas outperformed Seattle in several key areas: they scored 44 points in the paint compared to Seattle's 38, dominated second-chance points 18-2, and secured a significant rebounding advantage at 48-31.

This defeat leaves the Wings with a dismal record of 1-7, placing them at the bottom of the Western Conference standings.

Looking ahead, the team will return to Arlington to take on the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday, June 6, at College Park Center as they continue their journey in the Commissioner's Cup. Notably, Paige Bueckers is anticipated to return after missing the last two games due to concussion protocol. The game is set to tip off at 8:30 p.m. CT.

The WNBA's annual in-season tournament is set to unfold over the coming weeks, with each team playing against every other team in their conference once during this period. The Western Conference will feature six games with the inclusion of expansion team Golden State, while the Eastern Conference will have five games. The teams boasting the best records in each conference will compete in a title game.

The victorious team will receive a $500,000 cash prize pool to distribute among players, each of whom will also earn $5,000 in cryptocurrency from Bitcoin.
