Dietrich Enns Shines in Major League Return as Tigers Dominate A's

Jun 26 2025

Dietrich Enns took the mound Thursday, marking his return to Major League Baseball with a stellar performance, pitching five scoreless innings as the Detroit Tigers triumphed over the Oakland Athletics, 8-0.

Enns (1-0) faced minimal trouble, allowing just one hit and two walks. This outing was his first since a brief appearance for the Tampa Bay Rays on September 24, 2021, where he also delivered two scoreless innings against the Miami Marlins.

Before rejoining the majors, the 34-year-old spent time in Japan with the Seibu Lions from 2022 to 2023 and had a successful season with the LG Twins in South Korea, finishing with a 13-6 record last year.

On the opposing side, Jeffrey Springs (5-6) struggled, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over five innings of work.

The Tigers' offense was powered by home runs from Spencer Torkelson and Gleyber Torres, while Zach McKinstry contributed significantly with three hits, including a double and a triple.

Torkelson, who had been hitting .193 with nine homers in his last 54 games, ignited the scoring in the second inning with his 17th home run of the season.

In the third inning, Jahmai Jones extended the lead to 3-0 with a two-run double. Later, Torres added to the tally with a two-run homer in the seventh inning, pushing the score to 5-0. McKinstry capped off the offensive display with a two-run triple in the eighth, later scoring on a sacrifice fly.

Despite having runners on first and second with no outs in the third inning, Enns showcased his composure by retiring Jacob Wilson on a flyout and inducing Brent Rooker into a double play.

This victory marks the third win of Enns' MLB career, with his previous two wins also coming against Detroit in September 2021.

The Athletics will continue their road trip this weekend with a series against the New York Yankees. Right-handed pitcher Will Warren (4-4, 4.56) is set to start Friday's opener for New York.

Meanwhile, Detroit will send right-hander Sawyer Gipson-Long (0-0, 4.58) to the mound for Friday's first game of a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins.
