Dodgers Pitcher Alex Vesia Takes Leave for Family Matters

Oct 24 2025

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia is stepping away from the team, a decision announced just ahead of the World Series. The news broke on October 23 through the team's official Instagram account, revealing that Vesia is dealing with a personal family matter.

“It’s with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter,” the post stated. The Dodgers organization expressed their support for the Vesia family, promising to provide updates as the situation evolves.

Since joining the Dodgers in 2021, Vesia has established himself as a key left-handed reliever. His absence raises questions about roster adjustments, with Tanner Scott being mentioned as a potential replacement. “I think right now, we’re in the mode of trying to understand the process, the rules, a way that we could sort of try to navigate the roster,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts commented. “So I think we have a little bit of time to finalize our roster. But, yeah, we’re going through the process of trying to backfill his spot on the roster.”

Roberts further noted, “Honestly, I think we’re just going day-to-day with really no expectations.” The Dodgers are gearing up for their World Series matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays, set to begin on October 24 in Canada.

Vesia, 29, and his wife Kayla have been together since April 2019 and recently shared their excitement about expecting their first child. Earlier this year, they announced on Instagram, “Baby Vesia coming soon, we are beyond excited for this next chapter!”

After a romantic relationship, Alex proposed to Kayla in November 2022 at Marine Street Beach in La Jolla. They tied the knot at Ethereal Gardens on January 5, 2024, sharing their joy on social media with a heartfelt post: “THE BEST DAY OF OUR LIVES! We couldn’t have planned for a better day; it was everything we dreamed of and more.”

While specifics regarding the personal issue remain private, fans have shown overwhelming support for the couple. Comments on the Dodgers’ Instagram post reflect this sentiment, with one follower stating, “Some things are bigger than baseball. Family first and prayers for the Vesia family.” Another added, “Keeping the Vesia family in my thoughts. So many things more important than baseball.”

As the Dodgers prepare for their upcoming games, the focus remains on supporting Alex and Kayla during this challenging time.
