Fenway Park Concert Stage Dismantled Following Cancellations

May 30 2025

On Friday, the concert stage at Fenway Park was dismantled, following the abrupt cancellation of performances by Shakira and Jason Aldean due to structural concerns. The decision came just hours before Shakira was set to perform on Thursday evening.

Live Nation announced the cancellation, citing that "structural elements were identified as not being up to standard." This led to the cancellation of Jason Aldean's concert, which was scheduled for the following night, along with Brooks & Dunn.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu addressed the media, emphasizing the importance of safety. "We always want to make sure that we're taking action to prevent wherever possible anything that might happen in terms of injuries or things like that," she stated. Wu acknowledged that the decision was made by Live Nation based on their assessment of the stage's condition.

Apologizing to fans who traveled from various locations for the concerts, Wu expressed her support for prioritizing safety. "In this case, the organizers decided to do that and we always support putting safety first," she said. The mayor also noted the economic impact of such events, highlighting the joy they bring to fans visiting Boston.

When questioned about the role of Inspectional Services in the cancellation, Wu clarified that their involvement typically occurs at a later stage in the process. "It's complicated because there are different elements of the stage," she explained. "This wasn't ISD's call because that was not the issue here, so this was an organizer's decision." Wu reiterated respect for their choice to prioritize safety.

Looking ahead, Hozier is set to perform at Fenway Park on June 23 and 24, with additional concerts by Thomas Rhett, The Jonas Brothers, and The Who scheduled for later this summer. However, no rescheduled dates for Shakira or Jason Aldean have been announced yet.
