Florida Panthers' Title Celebration Leaves Stanley Cup in Need of Repairs

Jun 18 2025

The Florida Panthers celebrated their second consecutive championship on home ice Tuesday night, defeating Edmonton in six games, but the festivities took a toll on the Stanley Cup.

After hours of revelry, the iconic trophy emerged with a cracked bowl and a dented base, a fate not unfamiliar for the 131-year-old silver chalice.

Tradition dictated that the team would party with the Cup into the early morning hours, continuing the celebration in Fort Lauderdale well into Wednesday afternoon.

A representative from the Hockey Hall of Fame confirmed that the Cup's custodians are already addressing the damage and aim to have it restored before the celebration parade scheduled for Sunday. The trophy, weighing 37 pounds and composed of silver and nickel alloy, is known for its malleability.

Such damage is part of the Cup's storied history; it has endured being submerged in pools and even the Atlantic Ocean, not to mention rough handling by players and staff over the years. Just this decade, the Tampa Bay Lightning dropped it during their 2021 boat parade, while the Colorado Avalanche left their mark on it with a dent during their victory celebration the following year.
