Giants' Cam Skattebo Faces Backlash for WWE Appearance Following Injury
New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo made headlines by attending WWE Raw at Madison Square Garden, just weeks after suffering a severe ankle injury that ended his season. This decision sparked criticism from former NFL safety T.J. Ward.
“This how you make sure you have a short NFL career,” Ward remarked on social media, expressing his disapproval of Skattebo's choice to engage in physical antics so soon after his injury.
Ward, who played eight seasons in the NFL and won a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos in 2016, knows the risks involved in professional sports. His comments reflect a concern for Skattebo's future in the league.

At the event, Skattebo, 23, donned a New York Rangers jersey and sat alongside comedian Andrew Schulz. The atmosphere shifted dramatically when WWE superstar Dominik Mysterio confronted them, hurling insults at the audience.
“The only good thing that’s ever come out of New York City is standing right in front of you,” Mysterio declared, before turning his attention to Skattebo. “The only champion New York has seen in—can you count, Cam? How many years? He don’t know. He can’t count.”
As tensions escalated, Schulz attempted to intervene, leading to Mysterio shoving him back into his seat. Skattebo, who had recently endured a dislocated ankle during a game against the Philadelphia Eagles, stood up to confront Mysterio directly.
Backup from Mysterio’s faction, Judgment Day, arrived quickly. In a surprising turn, Skattebo pushed superstar JD McDonagh to the ground, igniting cheers from the crowd.
This act of defiance did not go unnoticed; Judgment Day retaliated against Skattebo and nearby Giants teammates. A chaotic brawl erupted, with Skattebo taking a hit from Mysterio but managing to leave the venue without further injury.
Skattebo underwent surgery for his dislocated ankle shortly after the incident, having been carted off the field just days prior. “Thank you everyone for the support!!” he posted online after the operation. “Surgery went well. I just want to thank the city of Philly for taking the best care of me.”

He expressed gratitude towards his medical team and shared his optimism for recovery: “This is just the beginning of my journey and I can’t wait to show you guys all about it!!! GOD has a plan for me, stick the course and it will all work itself out.”
Drafted in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Skattebo quickly became a fan favorite in New York. However, his absence has been felt deeply as the Giants have struggled, losing three consecutive games against the San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, and Green Bay Packers.
