Glen Taylor and his wife Becky are concluding their 30-year journey as owners of the Minnesota Timberwolves, marking a significant chapter in the franchise's history.
On Monday, they shared a heartfelt farewell letter titled "Thank You, Minnesota," expressing gratitude for what they describe as "30 unforgettable years" with both the Timberwolves and the Lynx. Their departure signifies the end of an extraordinary era in their lives.
In the letter, they reflected on pivotal moments, stating, "When we kept the Timberwolves from moving to New Orleans in 1994, we did so with the hope of building something that could unite people across Minnesota and beyond." The addition of the Lynx in 1998 was fueled by their commitment to supporting women and embracing the diversity of the WNBA.
The Taylors extended their thanks to partners, players, staff, and especially the fans. "Your passion has been the soul of this organization," they wrote. "You welcomed us into your homes, your lives, and your hearts. The roar of Target Center, the sea of jerseys in the stands, the shared highs and lows, and the belief in what we could accomplish together – it's all been nothing short of remarkable."
Despite stepping down from ownership, they emphasized that their love for the organization and community remains unwavering. They concluded their letter with a poignant statement: "It has been the honor of our lives."
Earlier this year, Glen Taylor confirmed plans to transfer control of the teams to partners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez. This decision follows an arbitration ruling that mandated Taylor to relinquish control of the NBA team as part of a $1.5 billion sale agreement established three years ago, which granted Lore and Rodriguez a majority stake.

Having purchased the team in 1994 for $88 million, Taylor's acquisition was partly motivated by a desire to prevent the franchise from relocating to New Orleans or other cities.
As the NBA draft approaches on Wednesday, the Timberwolves prepare for a new chapter under different leadership.
