Green Day Gets Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame: A Rock Legend Honored
Welcome to paradise, Green Day! The iconic rock band was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame during a ceremony held on Thursday, marking a significant milestone in their illustrious career.
All three members of the band—Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool—were present to accept their star in the Recording category. Actor Ryan Reynolds took the stage to speak at the event, praising the band's remarkable ability to maintain their unity and integrity over the years. "Even though I've only known them a short while, it's beyond rare for a band to stay together the way they have, as a unit," he remarked.
Since forming in 1986 in Berkeley, California, Green Day has become a defining force in punk rock. The five-time Grammy Award winners and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have released 14 albums and sold over 75 million records worldwide.
Their breakout album, "Dookie," released in 1994, was a game-changer, selling over 10 million copies and earning the Grammy for Best Alternative Album. Following that success, the band launched the rock opera "American Idiot" in 2004, which sold more than 8 million copies in the U.S. alone and won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.

In 2010, "American Idiot" was adapted into a stage musical that debuted on Broadway, receiving both critical and commercial acclaim.
More recently, Green Day released their thirteenth studio album, "Father of All," in 2020, followed by "Saviors" in 2024, continuing to evolve their sound and reach new audiences.
After the speeches wrapped up at the ceremony, Armstrong humorously expressed his gratitude, saying, "Yeah, this is kind of like being at your own funeral."
Just before this honor, Green Day wrapped up a headlining weekend at Coachella, performing for over 200,000 fans. Reynolds added a light-hearted jab, saying, "I'm frankly blown away that they're only getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame now. What is the Chamber of Commerce doing all day long? This is crazy!"
