Quentin Grimes Shines with 44 Points, 76ers End Losing Streak Against Warriors

Mar 02 2025

In an electrifying matchup, Quentin Grimes dropped a career-high 44 points, helping the Philadelphia 76ers break their nine-game losing streak with a 126-119 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night. This game was particularly memorable as it featured Stephen Curry's first dunk in six years, a one-handed jam that brought the Warriors within five points in the fourth quarter.

Alongside Grimes, Kelly Oubre Jr. contributed 20 points, while Guerschon Yabusele added 18. Paul George also made his mark with 17 points and seven rebounds. This win marked a significant turnaround for the 76ers, improving their record to 21-39, and it was their first victory since February 4 against the Dallas Mavericks.

On the other side, Curry led the Warriors with 29 points and 13 assists, continuing his impressive form despite the loss. Quenton Post and Gary Payton Jr. chipped in with 16 and 15 points, respectively. The Warriors had been riding a five-game winning streak before this defeat.

Grimes took charge offensively, especially when George and Tyrese Maxey struggled to find their rhythm. He scored 12 points in the third quarter alone, helping the 76ers extend their lead to 15 points. The absence of Jimmy Butler, who was sidelined with right mid back spasms, contributed to some sloppy play from the Warriors.

This game was particularly significant for the 76ers, as it was their first outing since Joel Embiid was ruled out for the season due to a left knee injury. Grimes, Oubre, and Yabusele stepped up in a big way, compensating for the struggles of stars Maxey and George.

As the game wound down, the Warriors managed to tie it at 116 with just two minutes remaining. However, Grimes drove to the basket to reclaim the lead for Philadelphia. Following a missed shot by Moses Moody, Yabusele hit a crucial three-pointer from the right corner, pushing the lead to five points.

Previously, Grimes' career high was 36 points, achieved while playing for New York against Indiana on April 5, 2023. Both teams are set to return to action on Monday night, with Golden State facing off against Charlotte and Philadelphia hosting Portland.
