Hurricanes Keep Rolling with 3-1 Win Over Sharks, Extending Streak to Eight

Mar 22 2025

In an exciting matchup on Thursday night, the Carolina Hurricanes took down the San Jose Sharks with a 3-1 victory, marking their eighth consecutive win. Sebastian Aho, Seth Jarvis, and Sean Walker each found the back of the net, while goalie Frederik Andersen made 24 saves to secure the win.

The game saw an early lead for the Sharks, thanks to William Eklund's short-handed goal just 13 minutes into the first period. However, the Hurricanes quickly responded, tying the game midway through the second with Jarvis' 27th goal of the season. Aho then broke the deadlock less than five minutes into the third period, scoring his 26th goal, followed by Walker's goal at 14:18, sealing the game at 3-1.

Making his NHL debut, Luca Cagnoni became the first defenseman from the 2023 draft class to hit the ice for San Jose. Meanwhile, Sharks goalie Georgi Romanov had a solid performance, stopping 26 shots in his first NHL start.

On the other side, Carolina's Mark Jankowski celebrated his 400th NHL game, contributing to the team's impressive performance. The Hurricanes have been on fire, outscoring their opponents 27-10 during this winning streak, showcasing their dominance in the league.

Despite the loss, the Sharks have shown flashes of potential, but they have struggled recently, losing five of their last six games and 32 of their last 40, with a record of 8-28-4 since December 5.

Eklund's short-handed goal was not only his first of the season but also marked his 15th goal overall and 50th point in his career. In a notable moment, Brent Burns played in his 911th consecutive game, surpassing former teammate Patrick Marleau for fifth place in NHL history.

Looking ahead, the Hurricanes will face off against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday afternoon, while the Sharks will host the Boston Bruins later that night.
