Witnesses at the scene recounted a harrowing account of the events leading to Hiltebeitel's untimely demise. Hiltebeitel was heard shouting for help, exclaiming, "He's trying to kill me," as he desperately tried to escape from Boucher, who was wielding the victim's own golf club in a menacing manner.
The situation escalated as Boucher relentlessly struck Hiltebeitel in the head with the golf club, prompting the victim to flee towards a nearby pond on the golf course's first hole. Shockingly, Boucher pursued Hiltebeitel into the water, where the violence continued to unfold.
