YouTube Bombards VTuber's Demonetized Videos with Over 100 Ads, Sparking Outrage

YouTube has found itself in hot water once again as a VTuber recently uncovered the overwhelming number of ads the platform placed on her demonetized Video on Demands (VODs), leaving viewers in disbelief.

The platform has been under scrutiny for its ad placement strategies, with recent controversies including ads on pause screens and a surge in Premium subscription costs, forcing users to either endure ads or seek workarounds.

VTuber Kirsche brought attention to the issue by revealing the extent of ads inundating her VODs, despite them being demonetized and generating no revenue for her.

In a recent development on December 10, an X account shared a screenshot from Kirsche's stream, showcasing the excessive number of ads on her videos.

The screenshot highlighted each yellow segment as an ad break, revealing that the ads occupied more space than the actual video content itself.

Speaking to Dexerto, Kirsche expressed her surprise at the situation, admitting that she had allowed YouTube to automatically insert ads assuming it would be done reasonably. However, the reality was far from her expectations.

“I assumed letting YouTube automatically place ads it would be a… sensible amount. But uh, I guess not?” she humorously remarked. “I only recently had people mention the amount of ads on my VODs, so I had no idea auto placement was doing this.”

She further added, “I found it hilarious that it states, ‘ads will be placed at natural breakpoints,’ and then it just throws a ton of ads in each VOD, and sometimes they’re mere seconds apart.”

Providing evidence, the VTuber shared screenshots from Discord displaying the ad break schedule on another VOD, revealing that YouTube had inserted a staggering 101 ads in a five-hour and 30-minute video, much to the astonishment of viewers.

Outraged by the excessive ads, one viewer exclaimed, “At some point there will be a class action lawsuit over this kind of sh*t,” while another bluntly stated, “That’s f**king obscene.”
