Former Memphis Officer Faces License Loss for Shooting Himself to Impress Girlfriend

Dec 15 2024

So, here's a brilliant idea - if you want to impress your significant other, just shoot yourself! Well, at least that seemed to be the ingenious plan of former Memphis Police Department officer, Nolan Sledge. The man decided that the best way to grab his girlfriend's attention was by firing a bullet into his own shoulder.

According to the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST), Sledge might soon face the consequences of his little stunt. The POST recommended on December 12, 2024, that Sledge should kiss his law enforcement career goodbye in the state of Tennessee.

Sledge joined the MPD on April 1, 2019, ready to serve and protect. Fast forward to April 19, 2024, and he's handing in his resignation amidst an internal investigation. Why, you ask? Well, it turns out that on August 19, 2023, Sledge decided to spice things up by calling MPD Communications and threatening to commit suicide. But instead of seeking help or talking it out, he opted for a more direct approach - took his off-duty gun and fired a single shot into his shoulder.

Surprisingly, Sledge emerged from this whole ordeal relatively unscathed. The POST Commission's report revealed that the bullet to the shoulder didn't cause any serious damage. Sledge later confessed that the entire shooting incident was just a ploy to get his girlfriend's attention after a little lovers' quarrel.

Now, here's the cherry on top - the same POST Commission that suggested Sledge should wave goodbye to his law enforcement career will soon cast a formal vote on his fate. If they decide to strip him of his license, Sledge can say farewell to working in any law enforcement agency in Tennessee. However, there might still be hope for him to pack his bags and seek employment in other states. Because clearly, shooting yourself to impress your partner is a skill that shouldn't go to waste!
