Kris Boyd Back in Hospital Following Gunshot Wound

Nov 27 2025

New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is back in the hospital, grappling with complications from a gunshot wound he sustained during a dispute outside a restaurant in New York City.

“Please bear with me, I haven’t been in communication much…” Boyd, 29, shared on his Instagram Story on November 27. “I was released but had to return to the hospital due to my health issues… I love and appreciate every one of y’all dearly who has prayed/reached out even if I can’t get back to you!”

In his Thanksgiving update, Boyd reassured his followers that he is on the mend. “Head HIGH, God is not through with me yet,” he concluded.

On November 16, around 2 a.m. ET, Boyd was shot in the abdomen following a violent altercation outside Sei Less restaurant on West 38th Street. He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where doctors found a bullet lodged in his right lung.

The NYPD has not publicly named any suspects but has released surveillance images from the scene. The shooter reportedly fled in a blue BMW.

Boyd first updated fans on November 19, confirming he was breathing independently and alert. “God is real, God is powerful!” he wrote then. “I’m sorry, I have no words at the moment. Just grateful! I’m coming along, starting to breathe on my own now. Sincerely appreciate everyone!”

Signed by the Jets in March, Boyd has yet to play this season due to a shoulder injury. His NFL journey began with the Minnesota Vikings in 2019, followed by stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans before joining the Jets.

Jets coach Aaron Glenn expressed his primary concern for Boyd and his family upon learning of the shooting. “Once I heard about the situation, the first thing I thought about was he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “I’m thinking about his wife. I want to make sure that he’s okay. That’s the only thing that really went through my mind.”

Glenn later spoke directly with Boyd but emphasized that discussions about returning to football were not appropriate at that moment. “That’s something I don’t think needed to be talked about at that time,” he explained. “It was more or less: ‘Man, how are you doing? How’s your family doing?’”

Teammate Harrison Phillips, who played alongside Boyd at Minnesota, expressed hope for a reunion soon. “I’ll say something about KB, though… just such an energetic, such a positive person,” Phillips remarked. “Even my time here with him, he’s still got that upbeat positivity, even while being on IR. And I can’t wait to see a smile on his face again.”
