Langford's Late Heroics Propel Rangers Past Mariners in Extra Innings
In a tense showdown, Wyatt Langford delivered a pivotal single in the 11th inning, propelling the Texas Rangers to a 6-4 victory against the Seattle Mariners on Saturday. With runners on the corners and no outs, Langford connected with a fastball from Casey Legumina, sending it slicing into right field.
Following Langford's hit, Ezequiel Duran added to the momentum with a broken-bat single that brought Sam Haggerty home, extending the Rangers' lead to 6-4. This decisive moment capped off a thrilling contest that saw both teams battling fiercely.
Making his mark, Luis Curvelo secured his first career win, retiring all four batters he faced in his second game. His performance was crucial in maintaining the Rangers' advantage as the game progressed.
Earlier in the game, Texas had taken a 4-2 lead in the 10th inning, thanks to Kyle Higashioka's single that drove in Duran, followed by Marcus Semien's groundout that added another run.
However, the Mariners fought back, tying the game in the bottom of the 10th with Randy Arozarena's impressive two-run homer off Robert Garcia. This marked Arozarena's 14th home run since June 30, leading all players during that stretch and bringing his season total to 22.
Despite their efforts, the Mariners couldn't capitalize on a bases-loaded situation with one out in the seventh inning, as Arozarena and Cal Raleigh both struck out looking against Danny Coulombe. Raleigh struggled throughout the game, finishing 0 for 5 with five strikeouts.
Notably, this matchup marked the Mariners' 11th game of the season that extended at least 11 innings, a league-high. As the series continues, Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (10-3, 2.55 ERA) is set to take the mound on Sunday, while Logan Evans (4-4, 4.22 ERA) will pitch for the Mariners in the final game of this four-game series.
