Lynx Dominate Sparks for a Strong 2-0 Start
The Minnesota Lynx kicked off their season in style, taking down the Los Angeles Sparks 89-75 on Sunday. Napheesa Collier was on fire, dropping 23 points, while Alanna Smith chipped in with 18 points, shooting an impressive 7-of-10 from the field.
On the Lynx side, Courtney Williams had a solid game too, finishing with 13 points and 10 assists. Jessica Shepard also made her mark, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, helping the Lynx improve to a 2-0 record.
For the Sparks, Azura Stevens led the charge with 21 points, but it wasn’t enough. Dearica Hamby added 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Kelsey Plum contributed 18 points along with five assists.
A pivotal moment came when Williams hit a 3-pointer just over a minute into the second half, giving Minnesota a lead they wouldn’t relinquish at 49-47. This sparked a 9-0 run that really set the tone for the rest of the game.
Even though Plum managed to cut the deficit to 75-70 with 7:45 left, the Lynx responded with an 11-0 run, thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers from Karlie Samuelsson and Smith, leaving the Sparks scoreless for over five and a half minutes.
The Lynx shot 48% from the field, hitting 10 three-pointers, which definitely helped seal the deal. Next up, they’ll face the Dallas Wings in their home opener on Wednesday, a team they previously beat 99-84. Meanwhile, the Sparks will head to Phoenix on the same day.
